CLEPA Supports Joint Proposal for a New European Automotive R&I Partnership

2025 is a turning point - Europe must accelerate innovation in sustainable, connected and automated mobility to remain globally competitive

Alongside leading stakeholders in Europe’s automotive and mobility ecosystem, CLEPA supports the proposal for a new European Research & Innovation Partnership focusing on Automotive under the next Multi-Annual Financial Framework. The initiative aims to accelerate a competitive and more integrated R&I framework focusing on inclusive, sustainable and accessible mobility through technological innovation.

Developed in close collaboration with ACEA-EUCAR, ERTRAC, and EARPA, together with the currently-running 2ZERO and CCAM Partnerships, the proposal responds to the European Commission’s Automotive Industry Action Plan and Competitiveness Compass and reflects a shared ambition to boost Europe’s technological sovereignty, close the innovation gap, and enhance global competitiveness.

The new Automotive Partnership would align public and private R&I efforts along the full value chain, improve coherence, and reduce time-to-market while enabling large-scale innovation actions. Shared strategic objectives, strong industrial leadership, streamlined governance, and a supportive regulatory environment, should be prioritised.

The initiative complements the upcoming European Connected and Automated Vehicle Alliance (ECAVA), planned for 2025–2027, which aims to coordinate policy, funding, and implementation efforts for connected and automated mobility, while paving the way for the broader Automotive Partnership.

CLEPA views 2025 as a pivotal moment to scale up innovation and industrial deployment and calls for strong engagement of all concerned parties to help shape these next-generation initiatives and ensure Europe’s competitiveness in future mobility.
