CLEPA joins call for independent operators’ ‘Right to Repair’

The call centres on an urgent need for a fair level-playing field and robust legislative backing to address the rising competitive advantage by OEMs controlling the data generated by vehicles.

CLEPA, along with other sector associations, have co-signed a statement calling for independent operators’ ‘Right to Repair’ at their meeting during Automechanika 2024. The call centres on an urgent need for a fair level-playing field and robust legislative backing to address the rising competitive advantage by OEMs controlling the data generated by vehicles.

The statement underlines the effects of digitalisation and the emergence of  the ‘software-defined vehicle’, which gives rise to new concerns on access to in-vehicle generated data, the vehicle’s operational functions and resources, the growing absence of repair information for electric vehicle batteries, and the increasing issue of parts captivity. Effective policy measures are essential to ensure that aftermarket players adhere more closely to automotive regulations, being out forward in a pan-European context.
