Job description

Based in Brussels, CLEPA, the European association of automotive suppliers, is looking to hire an intern (under a Belgian Convention d’immersion professionnelle contract) with a science background to join its Technical Regulations department, within the “Materials & Substances” domain.

The internship will focus on a range of regulations and topics, including hazardous materials and substances, REACH, PFAS, plastics, batteries, circularity, end-of-life, recycling, eco-design for road transport vehicles and their components.

The selected candidate will help monitor key regulatory developments in the automotive sector, coordinate member working group activities, support specific projects, and assist in organising international meetings.

Main tasks

Support and facilitate the daily organisation of the CLEPA expert group on “Materials & Substances”, including efficient meeting preparation and management (agenda, minutes, documents, research, follow-up)
Monitor the development of European and international automotive policies, regulations and roadmaps
Help develop and communicate the Association’s positions to inform institutions and other stakeholders
Help maintain good relations with institutions such as ECHA and the European Commission

Profile

For this highly interesting and varied role, we seek an individual with a willingness to develop quickly in a fast-paced environment, and with affinity with automotive technology solutions and an interest in regulatory affairs in an international setting. Typically, candidates would be expected to have a genuine interest in road transport and mobility, particularly in chemicals, materials and circularity.

Prior experience as an intern and insight in the topics of relevance for the job is considered an asset (e.g. understanding the principles for technical product certification and of European legislative processes).

Qualifications

University degree in material sciences, chemistry or similar
Very good verbal and written communication skills in English (additional knowledge of other EU languages is a plus)
Team player with ability to support groups in a consensus-oriented way
Positive, pro-active, enthusiastic self-motivating attitude
Availability to travel on short trips within the EU
