CLEPA calls for swift ratification of EU-Mercosur agreement
CLEPA joins 26 leading European business associations in issuing a joint declaration calling for the rapid ratification of the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement. Representing industries that account for over €153 billion in trade and €380 billion in mutual investment between the EU and Mercosur, the signatories emphasise the strategic importance of the agreement in strengthening the EU’s global competitiveness and economic resilience.
According to DG Trade, the deal could boost EU GDP by €77.6 billion and Mercosur GDP by €9.4 billion by 2040, while increasing EU exports to Mercosur by 39% and Mercosur exports to the EU by 17%. The agreement promises enhanced market access, secure supply chains, and deeper cooperation on sustainability, including climate action and social rights.
The business community urges the European Council and Parliament to expedite the ratification of both the interim Trade Agreement (iTA) and the broader EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement (EMPA), highlighting its potential to benefit 750 million people across both regions.
