CLEPA Warranty Conference - 10 May 2007, Brussels
The third CLEPA Conference on Warranty was designed to keep members up to date with the developments in warranty practices and to fully benefit from the work which is being carried out by the Warranty Working Group (WG). The conference included keynote speakers from Toyota and J D Power and Associates and also gave members the opportunity to ask questions, give feedback and to draw on experience of the members of the group.
The Conference, which was held on 10 May at the Diamant Building, Brussels, was well received and the good Q/A session reflected the continued high level of interest in this topic.
Some 70 participants, representing some 40 companies attended the event. Many functions, in addition to Warranty, were represented including Legal, Commercial and Quality.
Lars Holmqvist (CEO, CLEPA) began the morning session with an overview of the latest EU automotive industry position. This included an overview of warranty which demonstrated how the importance of warranty issues affecting the EU automotive industry continues to increase, especially in terms of the impact felt in the supply industry.
The morning session continued with a presentation from Brian Walters (V.P, European Operations, J D Power and Associates). This focussed on the pivotal role which suppliers have in end customer satisfaction and identified and quantified the key drivers.
The morning session concluded with a presentation from Necdet Senturk (Director, Quality Division, Toyota Motor Europe). This included an explanation of the Toyota Quality Way, the focus on end customer satisfaction and Toyota’s expectations from suppliers.
There was a change of format for the afternoon session with presentations from the members of the CLEPA Warranty WG followed by a Q/A session. The afternoon presentations covered the following topics:
- An overview of the Warranty WG activities – presented by John Guy
- A review of the updated comparison of VM Warranty Terms matrix including a summary of European warranty trends – presented by Bruno Demichelis, Delphi
- An overview of Warranty in a Legal context including warranty applicability in the Legal case and contractual automotive warranty – presented by Bettina Hermann, Federal Mogul
- The background and status of the Warranty Information Standards project – presented by Jules Rosheuvel, DENSO.
The Conference concluded with representatives of the Warranty WG (presenters together with Ezio Marcelli, Mark IV DAYCO; Oliver Jones, GKN Driveline; Ekkehard Helmig, Legal Advisor; Gerhard Heilmann, Robert Bosch and Wolfgang Deissenroth, Siemens VDO) forming a panel for Questions and Feedback. The session began with feedback on the Warranty Information Standards project followed by questions from the floor which covered a wide range of warranty topics. This, together with analysis of ‘Feedback Forms’, will enable the Warranty WG to ensure members’ issues are being addressed.
