Ban on Heavy Metals
New annex 2 to the End of Life Vehicles Directive and
Industry interpretation guide
On 25 February 2010 the European Commission published its decision on the new Annex 2 to the End of Life Vehicles Directive (ELV) 200/53/EC, giving the updated exemptions to the ban on 4 Heavy Metals (Lead, Cadmium, Mercury and Hexavalent Chromium).
The main new exemptions are those under item 8, lead in solders for electric/ electronic equipments and for safety glazing. The former 2 exemptions have now been divided by the European Authorities in 10 applications.
To help the supply chain understand what is meant by the exemptions, the Automotive Industry - CLEPA, ACEA, JAMA and KAMA - have prepared an interpretation guide.
