The Trade WG provides a forum for CLEPA members, to discuss external trade matters which affect our business with “third countries”, the Commission’s Market Access Advisory Council (MAAC), DG TAXUD’s Trade Contact Group (TCG), Businesseurope
Tasks &s objectives
- share concerns and best practices, with a view to maintaining, protecting and furthering favourable trading terms; improving market access, simplifying customs activities and trade facilitation, in the interests of the automotive supply industry;
- drafting joint proposals, position papers and recommendations.

Recent Agenda Topics
- bilateral negotiations - FTAs; EU FTA South Korea, ASEAN
- Follow and take positions on: the round of multilateral trade negotiations in the WTO, the Doha Development Agenda (DDA);
- supply chain security, change to Customs Code;
- defining our current trading conditions, state of: import/export markets to and from various third countries and others;
- reporting to DG Trade/ DG ENTR on specific market access priorities in 3rd countries, including tariff/ import duties; rules of origin; export restrictions/prohibitions; non-tariff barriers, technical barriers to trade (TBTs)); customs procedures, taxation, environmental issues.
- raising, where appropriate, trade defence instruments (safeguards, anti-dumping, anti-subsudy and countervailing measures) in the event of government subsidies/state aids, tax/duty exemptions.

- assessing impact of these trade barriers;
- reviewing discrimination and transparency in domestic regulation and taxation;

- specification of the lack of the regulations or laws that constitute barriers;
- Regulatory issues: how may abuse of IPR be tackled through trade agreements? Level of satisfaction of government procurement?;
- Environment – the main environmentally-related issues affecting cross-border trade, how may this be remedied in a trade agreement to render local compliance?
